How our picks work
Betcierge is built on one rule: no edge, no bet. Hunter, our AI analyst, looks at the whole board every day and publishes only the few plays that clear a high bar. Some days that's three plays. Some days it's none.
1. Every game gets screened
Each morning Hunter screens every game on the day's board in the sports we cover. Games that show a possible edge move on to full research.
2. Deep research on the promising ones
For each of those games, Hunter runs a full research pass: injuries and availability, confirmed lineups and starters (starting pitchers, goaltenders, quarterbacks), recent form, schedule and rest, matchup factors, and how the line has moved. The research is written up and scored out of 10.
3. Checks before anything is published
- Lineups first. Nothing publishes until the key players are confirmed. That's why picks usually go out 45 to 60 minutes before the game.
- The game must be real and current. Every pick is matched against the live odds board, and the price is re-checked right before publishing.
- Consistency checks. A write-up that mentions the wrong teams or players is rejected automatically.
- A fixed bar. A pick must score at least 7 out of 10. The bar is never lowered to fill a slate.
- A small number of plays. At most three official picks a day plus one soccer pick, with limits on how many can share a sport and bet type.
4. Units, not dollars
Every pick is sized in units: 1 unit for a standard play, up to 2 for the strongest. A unit is whatever fixed amount you choose to risk per standard play.
5. Graded automatically, kept for good
After the game, every pick is graded automatically. We also record the closing line — the last price before the game — to measure closing-line value (CLV): whether we got a better number than the market settled on. Over time, CLV is one of the most honest measures of whether a process has an edge.
- Record: wins and losses. Pushes are shown separately.
- Units: a win pays at the odds at publish; a loss costs the units risked.
- ROI: units won or lost divided by units risked.
- Voided picks (a postponement or a late lineup change) stay visible, labeled, and aren't counted.
- Nothing is edited or deleted after publishing. Only the result and closing line are added.
The Free Pick of the Day
Every day, the first official non-soccer pick published becomes the free pick. It's the same pick free members see in the app. It gets its own permanent page with the pick, the odds at publish, and the opening of Hunter's analysis. Once the game is graded, the full original analysis unlocks for everyone. Because the free pick is chosen by time of publication, its record is its own and is shown separately from our overall record.
What the AI does — and doesn't
Hunter's research and write-ups are generated by AI with live web research. The rules it follows — what gets researched, what a pick must clear, how plays are sized, and how every result is graded — are set by people and enforced in code, not left to the AI's judgment.
Who's behind it
Miles M. Davis and Jordan Winter are Betcierge's founders. They have spent six years running CaptainPicks, a sports betting research service, and they set the methodology and standards Hunter follows.
